Latin Patriarchate Projects for 2008

Tabarbour Land (Jordan) $586,000.00 The town is located 7 km from Al Hashimi in West Amman, where there are a Parish and a school of the Latin Patriarchate. Most families are relocating from al Hashimi and other parts of Jordan to Tabarbour. At present 158 Christian families are living there and the arrival of 400 families is expected. The Latin Patriarchate has decided to buy a plot of land in order to build in the near future a new Church followed by a school and a convent.
Fuheis Al Balad School (Jordan) $214,000.00 This is the second phase of the project. The first phase has been fully financed in 2007 by the Lieutenancy of England and Wales for the same amount.
Bir Jeit School Extension (Palestine) $457,000.00 The school has 434 students mostly Christians coming also from Jifna and Aboud and other zones surrounding Muslim villages. The extension will provide the space for the courses of the superior school (level 11 and 12). The project consists of building a new wing upon the present sport field (a covered playground, two superimposed floors providing 6 additional classrooms, a science lab and a multipurpose hall). The purschase of a bordering plot of land for outdoor activities is also planned.
Al Wahadneh Priest House (Jordan) $79,000.00 The house was built at the same time as the Church in 1948 and needs refurbishing and enlarging since it is also used for catechism and social meetings.
Deir Rafat Sanctuary (Palestine) $57,000.00 The road used by the Procession on the occasion of the Feast of Our Lady of Palestine needs to be paved and a drainage system has to be installed near the entrance gate(first phase). The re-arrangenment of the yard on the side of the church, the removal of the playground of the old shcool and relocation of external lavatories for visitors will follow next year.
Hogar Nino Dios (Palestine) $24,000.00 The Argentinian Sisters of the "Verbo Encarnado" are residing in the building bought by the Order in Bethlehem in 2005. The nuns assist severly handicapped children living permanently in the house. The projects is for the installation of a central heating system necessary to provide adequate care for the children in the winter.
Christ the King Church (Jordan) $99,000.00 This is for the restoration of the Parish Church in Amman Misdar.

St. Joseph's Hospital Maternity Center (Jerusalem) $2,363,000.00 There is an acute shortage of medical structures for gynecological and maternal care in Jerusalem East and in Palestine which causes a high rate of mortality among new born babies in the region (20 deaths per 1000 born alive). A new Maternity Center will be constructed for the St. Joseph's Hospital - the only Catholic hospital in Jerusalem - with a hospitalization department of 36 beds, a modern delivery unit, an emergency unit, a nursery and accessories.
Daughters of St. Anne (Haifa) $14,000.00 The daughters of St. Anne run a nursery in Haifa for approximately 300 children. The works consist in the enlargement of the courtyard and the replacement of the actual structure with a reinforced concrete structure.
Church of Our Lady of Grace (Haifa) $32,000.00 The "House of Grace" in Haifa is a social welfare center belonging tyo the Greek Melkite Archdoicese of Akka. The Center organizes activities for peace and justice in Isreal, supports homeless and poor people of Haifa's area. In the same compound, very close to the sea, there is the Church of Our Lady of Grace. This Church built in 1862 needs a restoration of the external building due to the high level of humidity and salinity which caused severe damages.
Greek Melkite Parish Church of Our Lady (Arrabeh) $39,000.00 The small Church is unable to accommodate all the people participating in religious occasions and needs an extensive work of restoration. The parish pastoral council has planned to add to the existing 150 m2 an extension of 50 m2, in order to have more space for people plus a modest bell tower.
Greek Melkite Schools at Beior Sahour, Ramallah, Beit Hanina $32,000.00 The schools of Beit Sahour, Ramallah, and the kindergarten of Beit Hanina are owned by the Greek Melkite Exarchate of Jerusalem. The total number of pupils is approximately 1,200 of which 900 are Christians. The works consist mainly in reinforcing the buildings' foundations, the rain water draining and in replacing the roof of the covered courts.
Rosary Sisters' School and Convent (Gaza) $32,000.00 In June 2007 the school and the convent of the Rosary Sisters in Gaza suffered great damages caused by the conflict between Hamas and Fatah. Looters broke down the entrance door to the compound of the schol and the Sisters' house; they also descecrated the chapel and burned the furniture.
Community Cancao Nova (Bethlehem) $14,000.00 The Maronite Archdioceses of Haifa and Holy Land presented the project. The Community Cancao Nova, a Brazilian well known Non-Profit Catholic Organization, working in the area of mass media communication, has established a community in Bethlehem in a small apartment. The Community needs to restructure and enlarge the actual location with new rooms and a chapel.
Syrian Orthodox Parish Community Hall (Jerusalem) $79,000.00 With the complex of Saint Mark's Monastery in the Old City of Jerusalem, the community hall is the only place for events related to religious ceremonies, social and educational activities for members of the Parish, official meetings with religious leaders and other visitors. The hall is now in dire need of restoration.
Bethlem Arab Society Hospital for Rehabilitation (Beit Jala) $17,000.00 The Bethlehem Arab Society Hospital, founded in 1960 for the rehabilitation and orthopedics surgery, has been transferred from Bethlehem to Beit Jala hills fifteen years ago. The board of trustees of the hospital decided to increase the offer of medical services creating new medical departments and it now needs to purchase some medical machines for the cardiology department.
